Buckeye State Blog senior contributor Tim Russo votes for Sam Nunn as the choice for Barack Obama's running mate in the November election. A quick look at Sam Nunn's Wikipedia page shows why even considering Nunn for the ticket is a bad idea. For one, Sam Nunn is much too conservative to be a serious choice. Check this out:
He voted in favor of school prayer, capping punitive damage awards, amending the U.S. Constitution to require a balanced budget, and limiting death penalty appeals.
This is not the kind of Vice President that Obama needs. Also, Nunn is old. He is only 2 years younger than John McCain. I think we need to look elsewhere. I would suggest either Tom Vilsack, Bill Richardson or Janet Napolitano.
Next time.....we look at Hillary Clinton's possible choices for her ticket.
I agree with him, in principle, about the balanced budget amendment vote.
We're far enough removed from that vote so I don't remember all the ins and outs of the language, but I believe we need to craft what at least 45 states (from memory) deal with.
I know there are concerns about war funding, etc, but I don't believe for a minute that we couldn't craft something that handles unusual issues and invokes an automatic paydown procedure to correct those issues.
